Serve

The word ministry actually means “to serve”. Ministry is using the gifts and talents that God has placed within you to serve Him and the needs of others. Serving is also a great way to connect with other people. Not only can you share the love of Christ with others as you serve them, but you can also share your love for Christ with other believers as you serve side by side.

Serving at Southwest Christian Church is an opportunity for everyone to put their love for Christ into action. There are many types of needs so most everyone will find a suitable place to volunteer. Some needs are behind the scenes, some are more visible, some take specific skills, but the primary requirements are just willing hearts and hands. All service to others demonstrates our love for Jesus. Participating in a service ministry at Southwest Christian reflects the ministry of Jesus Christ (Mark 10:45).

Here at Southwest, we believe that all followers of Christ are called to serve in some capacity and are also an essential part of our church family. We desire to help you explore why God designed you to serve and how you can begin the journey of discovering where He desires to use your unique gifts from Him. We have several service opportunities for you to put your particular gifts and talents into action! We look forward to the journey together.

GET INVOLVED

First Impressions

– Become a Sunday morning greeter by welcoming individuals in and providing them with the Sunday morning bulletin as well as offer communion cups.
– Offer information, answer questions, and facilitate sign-up sheets when applicable at the welcome center.

Community Care

– Donate items for our Homeless Outreach: First aid, bandaids, wound cleanser, wound care, bandages, mini first aid kits, foot cream/antifungal cream, backpacks, blankets, hand warmers, socks, small and medium t-shirts, tennis shoes/close-toed shoes, men/women's underwear, hats, tank tops, shorts, gloves, beanies, long socks, coats, jacket, sweaters, long sleeve t-shirts, sweat pants, scarves, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, combs/hairbrushes, shaving razors, body lotion, body soap, shampoo/conditioner, sunscreen, feminine hygiene products, etc.
– Offer to pick up/drop off those that do not have reliable transportation. This could be to or from church, doctor's appointments, picking up groceries, etc.

Worship

– Sound Team: If you have an interest in helping with sound, we can train you! We will need you once a month to run the soundboard for both Sunday morning worship and during worship practice.
– Vocalists: Whether your passion is for contemporary worship music or traditional hymns if you have a good singing voice and a basic understanding of harmonies we have a place for you. You must be available to attend weekly practices.
– Instrumentalists: Whatever your instrument, if you are proficient at your craft and would like to use your gift for worship we'd love to talk with you. You must be able to read music/chord charts and be available to attend weekly practices.
– Special Productions: Each year we put on special productions. If you are interested in acting, set design, or singing in the choir we have a place for you!

Southwest Kids

– Small Group Leaders: We are always looking for volunteers to help with our Kid's Ministry! Volunteering is usually done on a monthly basis but if you have special scheduling requirements let us know and we would be happy to work with you. Small group leaders are equipped with the right tools and lessons each Sunday so all our small group leaders have to do is facilitate instruction and fun with the kids!

Students

– Help Setup: After church, we will set up tables and chairs outside (weather permitting) for the SWCC Students. We need a few people to stick around after service and help with setup!
– Provide Lunch: We serve the Students lunch each Sunday and are looking for people to bring meals! Sign up just once or multiple times! Either is a great blessing to our youth group. If a full meal is too much we also love cookies, brownies, etc. Click here to sign up to bring a meal or dessert.
– Small Group Leaders: Each Sunday Students break up into small groups to have a deeper study of scripture and share more about their lives. Small group leaders must be adults willing to serve every Sunday, who are excited to pour into the Students' lives, and are ready to walk through life with teenagers. They must be willing to take a background check and serve from after church until the last Student is picked up.

Fellowship

– Meal Prep, Planning, and Clean Up: Planning meals, preparing food, serving of meals, and clean up after meals and events is one way that our Fellowship Ministry helps the church and other specific ministries.
– Volunteer Recruiting: Find volunteers and ministry leadership positions to support other ministries.
– Purchase Supplies:  Purchase food and other supplies for the church as a whole and special events.
– Ministry Coordination: Coordinate with other ministries to provide support, coordinate events, and get people connected.
– Connect with others in the church by hosting dinners, starting a mentorship, or offering to help with any of their needs.
– Decorate or help set up for events.
– Aid with church administrative tasks.

Missions

– Hosting missionary couples or families when they visit our congregation is a wonderful opportunity to really get to know them.
– Send birthday and anniversary cards to each of our missionaries. Volunteer to have the cards signed by as many SWCC folks as practical. Plan to send cards and postage to the missionaries’ forwarding agents 5-6 weeks before the event (slightly different time requirement for U.S. and Mexico missionaries).
– Fundraise for missions. Volunteer to organize and work a project to raise money for. For example, Pack the Pantry for Colegio Biblico (food for students who struggle financially).

Prayer

– Pray: As believers, we believe that we are called to pray consistently as God wants to hear from us and build a personal relationship with us. Here are a few ideas to join us in our mission to pray: pray during worship service, join or start a weekly prayer group, commit to praying for a child in the youth group, pray for and send notes of encouragement to the sick, prayer walk the school campuses before school starts, prayer walk in your neighborhood, prayer walk in our local neighborhood, participate in a book study on prayer, commit to daily prayer support for our church staff and spouses, support kids at the "See You At The Pole" events, participate in fasting and prayer, and commit to daily prayer support for our missionaries.
– Submit Prayer Requests: We here at Southwest always welcome your prayer requests as we want to walk alongside you and support you through the power of prayer. Feel free to send in any prayer requests here.
– Prayer Letter: Every month a prayer letter is sent out as a compiled list of recent prayer requests that have been received. In order to receive this monthly prayer letter, email Amy Reed to be added to the email list.

Creative Media

– Create graphics and other promotional materials.
– Manage the church website and update other digital channels.
– Manage the church's Facebook and Instagram accounts.
