Youth and Worship Minister - Job Description

Job Description: Southwest Christian Church, located in South Austin, TX is a body of believers of 200+. We are a multigenerational, diverse, growing church, passionate about seeing our community restored to a growing relationship in Jesus Christ. We are seeking a spiritually mature person who will lead our Student Ministries (6-12 grade) and guide our congregation in weekly worship.  This person will lead volunteers, partner with parents, and serve as a Christlike influence in our church and community.
Education & Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in a related field with applicable internships
or
•5+ years of experience in youth/student ministry.

Student Ministry Responsibilities (70%)
  • Design, oversee, and ensure effective execution of curriculum, programs, events, and (mission, discipleship, fellowship, etc.) trips for students between 6th and 12th grade.
  • Develop and execute a relationally based discipleship program for 6th-12th grade students.
  • Identify students who are FAT (faithful, available, teachable) for personal discipleship.
  • Develop positive relationships with students and their parents and serve as a shepherd/pastor for them.
  • Equip students for ministry and ensure they are “plugged in” to the ministry of Southwest.
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize youth volunteers to aid in the execution of all student ministry programs.
  • Create and manage the Student Ministry annual budget.
  • Serve as a resource for the Children’s Ministry, associated staff, as well as families with children birth-12th grade.
  • Equip parents to be the primary spiritual disciplers in their homes through teaching and discipleship opportunities.
  • Plan and facilitate the execution of “family events” with the goal of strengthening the parent/child relationship (ie. father/son camping trips, mother/daughter events, etc.).

Worship Ministry Responsibilities (30%):
  • Lead weekly worship services with excellence, sensitivity, and spiritual maturity.
  • Plan and prepare worship sets that are theologically sound, align with sermon themes, and appropriate for the church’s culture and demographics.
  • Recruit, schedule, and rehearse with volunteer vocalists and musicians to promote preparedness, unity, and growth.
  • Facilitate regular rehearsals, sound checks, and musical preparation to maintain both technical and spiritual excellence.
  • Utilize Planning Center (or an equivalent platform) to manage scheduling, music resources, and team communication
  • Cultivate a healthy, encouraging, and spiritually grounded worship team culture.
  • Support and participate in special services and events (holidays, conferences, weddings, funerals, and other church-wide gatherings) as needed.

General Staff Duties:
  • Develop  and manage budgets that align with ministry goals.
  • Attend monthly elder and shepherding meetings.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/needed by the Lead Pastor.

  • Maintain an active and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  
  • Serve as a spiritual leader and example.  
  • Be actively engaged in the life of Southwest Christian Church through meaningful relationships, faithful service, and continued spiritual growth alongside the congregation.
  • Demonstrate Christ-like character, humility, and a commitment to unity in all interactions.

  • Gross salary package will be determined based on education and years of experience in ministry.
  • Weeks of vacation and personal days off will be determined based on years of service at Southwest Christian Church as outlined in the SWCC Policies and Procedures Manual.  
  • A budget for continuing education and ministry related expenses will be provided.
  • Retirement: Southwest will match up to 3% of staff contributions of salary toward an IRA. Salary does not include the portion of the gross salary package designated as “housing” by the staff member.
