CHILDREN'S MINISTER/DIRECTOR SEARCH

Southwest Christian Church, located in South Austin, TX is a body of believers of 200+. We are a multigenerational, diverse, growing church, passionate about seeing our community restored to a growing relationship in Jesus Christ. We and are looking for someone who will be a good fit for our team, loves kids, and can effectively lead our children’s ministry (birth-5th grade). This person will oversee all of our children’s programming, including selecting curriculum and managing budget. While we believe in our Sunday and midweek programming, our real heart is to equip parents to effectively disciple their kids. All we do is done with an eye towards this end.

General Staff Duties

  • General Staff Expectations: Full time staff is expected to work 40-45 hours per week. Office hours are Monday-Thursday 9a-5p with an additional 1 evening per week. Sunday is viewed as an 8-hour day and all staff are expected to be available accordingly.
  • Be a member of Southwest Christian Church and an active participant in the life of the community.
  • Attend worship services and all church wide events.
  • Strive to grow and develop through conferences, reading, and exchange of ideas with others.
  • Model standards and expectations of church leaders consistent with biblical teaching.
  • Attend monthly Elder’s Meetings.

Children’s Ministry Responsibilities (85%)

  • Commit to the complete development of volunteers, equipping “his people for works of service so that the Body of Christ may be built up.” Recruit, train, retain, motivate, appreciate, and communicate with volunteers.
  • Oversee, provide leadership for, and facilitate the execution of all programming for children birth-5th grade, including but not limited to:
    • Sunday morning nursery, bible school, and the children’s worship hour.
    • Summer activities such as Vacation Bible School and summer camp.
  • Commit to building meaningful relationships with children and their parents.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of our children’s ministry, identifying deficiencies and implementing corrective measures.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents about ministry goals, upcoming events, and opportunities to serve.
  • Aid in the planning and execution of “family events” with the goal of strengthening the parent/child relationship (i.e.. father/son camping trips, mother/daughter events, etc.).
  • Equip parents to be the primary spiritual disciplers in their homes through teaching and discipleship opportunities.
  • Serve as the point person for 2-3 annual church wide outreach events geared towards families: including recruiting, training, and directing event volunteers.
  • Prepare and manage the children’s ministry budget.

Other Responsibilities (15%)

  • Other general administrative duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Minister.

Accountability

  • Children’s Minister/Director will report to Senior Minister and work in tandem with our Student Ministry to serve families.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings for prayer, communication, and planning.
  • Attend monthly elder’s/deacon’s meetings.
  • Attend an annual review to discuss annual job performance in regard to goals and objectives.
  • Present all vacation requests in advance to the Senior Minister.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passionately loves Jesus and is committed to continued personal and spiritual growth.
  • Is aligned with Southwest Christian Church’s vision for ministry and statement of faith. (http://swccaustin.org/beliefs)
  • Is passionate about ministering to kids and their families.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or ministry is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in Children’s Ministry or another educational environment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with and engage a team of volunteers.

BENEFITS

  • Gross salary package will be determined based on education and years of experience in ministry.
  • Weeks of vacation and personal days off will be determined based on years of service at Southwest Christian Church as outlined in the SWCC Policies and Procedures Manual. (Up to 5 years of service: 2 weeks annually, 5-10 years of service: 3 weeks annually, 10+ years of service: 4 weeks annually). Vacation is accrued bi-monthly, and a portion of accrued vacation can be rolled over to the following year in accordance with the SWCC Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Staff holiday/office closures are determined by calendar annually.
  • A stipend for continuing education and ministry related expenses will be provided.
  • Retirement: Southwest will match up to 3% of staff contributions of salary toward an IRA as described in the SWCC Policies and Procedures Manual.
